Deal of the Week

Over the weekend, Nordstrom Rack was having their “clear the racks” event where all clearance items are an additional 25% off. This is a great way to find some amazing deals, but it does require a bit of digging to find the best items at the best price. I prefer to go in stores rather than order online for these sales. I find that I end up buying less unnecessary items if I’m shopping in person rather than online where you can just mindlessly add to cart.

I usually go in not looking for anything in particular, but always have a mental list of basics I always need. If I’m buying something just because it’s a good deal, that’s not the best reason to buy something and it’s a pass. If it’s something I would buy normally, and then just happens to be a great deal, it’s an immediate yes.

I was browsing the shoe section, and saw a pair of slides. Slides are not something I wear often, just to walk my dog, get the mail, water my garden, etc, so it’s not a product I would spend a ton of money on. The pair I currently have are a pair from Target I found for $10.I saw a pair that caught my eye, and grabbed them to take a closer look. They were APLs, which I own a pair of sneakers from, and love the brand. They’re black slides with a bit of metallic gold detail, and fit my foot extremely well making them look more refined than just a pair of rubber shoes you’d wear to the pool.

Owning APL sneakers, I knew these slides wouldn’t be cheap. But they were in the sale section, so I knew whatever price it was the extra 25% off would help. To my shock, the sale sticker said $42. With the additional discount, they came to $32. That’s almost 80% off the sticker price!! Did I need the slides? Probably not, but it’s a great basic that I don’t have, and that I will get a ton of wear out of. They are also extremely comfortable and way more supportive than the pair I currently have, with a cushioned bottom making them nice on your feet. I will donate my current pair and replace them with the APLs, making them a swap in my wardrobe instead of an addition. By having a one in one out rule, it helps me from having too much stuff and keeps me in check for what I own!
