Every year I always try to add a few pairs of good sandals to my wardrobe. I’m very picky when it comes to sandals, and try on a lot of different pairs before purchasing any! But the ones I do end up getting are worn for years, and are worth the effort to find them.

When shopping, I look for a few different things:
Are they comfortable?
There’s really nothing worse than being stuck with uncomfortable shoes all day, or having your feet covered in blisters. If they shoe isn’t comfortable when you get them, you probably won’t wear them as such or they’re not likely to become more comfortable. I always try to walk around a bit when trying on sandals to see if they rub or pinch anywhere. I also like to be able to wear my sandals all day long, so comfort is key! If they are comfortable but a stiffer material, I try to wear them for quick outings to help break them in prior to wearing them for a full day
Are they easy to match with my outfits?
While colors and prints add such a fun touch to a shoe, I usually gravitate more to tans, browns, blacks, and neutrals for shoes because they’re easier to match with my wardrobe. I do have a lot printed dresses, so I like to make sure I have shoes to go with any outfit. I do also love a pop of color for sandals to add some interest a simple outfit like jeans and a t shirt! I just recently got a vibrant orange pair that will look so great with white jeans. That being said, I only need one or two pair of shoes like that. I also try to avoid “trendy” shoes, because they are harder to style and may not be worn the following year. To keep the sandal from being too boring, I love getting pairs with a fun little twist like a tie or bow detail, or even a buckle accent.
Are they well made?
Amazon and Target fashion are really big right now, but I tend to find that the quality just isn’t there. For cheaper prices, you usually end up getting cheaper materials. I believe more in quality over quantity, and would prefer to get better made sandals that will last me a few seasons over multiple cheaper shoes that last one summer. I tend to find leather sandals to be more durable and last a lot longer!
Some of my favorite brands for sandals are Staud, Sam Edelman, and Kaanas. They are great quality, and I never have to break them in prior to wearing them. I’ve had a few of my pairs of sandals for years, so it’s worth the higher price point if they last that long!
