I know I’m a few years behind on this bandwagon for getting the Dyson airwrap, but I had to make sure that the investment of this purchase was worth it for me. I remember looking at this when it first came out, and how innovative this hair tool was, and couldn’t wait to get it. But the hefty price tag and negative reviews quickly made me change my mind. When I was holiday décor shopping at my local TJ Maxx, I spotted one of the shelves for $399. That price is $100 off retail price or about 20% off, which is a better price than I have found anywhere (and yes, I’ve been looking all over the internet for years). The only price comparable is getting is during a Sephora sale, but they are often sold out during those times, and I feel guilty spending so much money at once since I stock up my favorites during the sale.
Even finding it at an off price retailer for a discounted price, it’s still expensive and a luxury item. One reason I was so hesitant to get it was not just the price tag, but justifying the price tag. Is it actually worth the price? Will I actually use it as much as I think? Is it really better than what I’m using now? Instead of looking at the price, I like to think of the cost per use. I wash and dry my hair every day (I know it’s not the best for your hair but mine gets super oily really fast), so the cost per use for everyday is a little over a $1 for a year. After even just the first time using the Airwrap, I can completely justify the purchase and I am absolutely in love with it. If you weren’t going to use all the attachments, or use it often, then the cost may not be worth it for you. If you were to buy a separate styling tool per function (a hair dryer, a dryer brush, a curling iron, etc), you would be almost at the same price as the dyson, so it’s like getting 4 tools in one.
Before the pandemic when I was going into the office everyday, it would take me almost and hour to dry and curl my hair. I have very fine hair, but a lot of it and it’s long, so drying my hair would take forever. I even got the Revlon dryer brush to make the process easier and to have “blow out” like hair in a short amount of time. It would make my hair dry in less than 15, but even with heat protectant spray and letting my hair air dry before using it my hair was getting fried. I needed to try something else, and the Airwrap was exactly what I needed. I also HATED doing my hair every day, so this solved a huge problem in my mornings. Even while staying home I’ve been doing my hair every morning because it takes no time or effort anymore.
The first thing I noticed when trying it out was how light it is. The worst part about blow-drying your hair is holding it up while holding the brush in your other hand trying to pretend you’re ambidextrous. This tool is SO light that holding it with one hand isn’t too much of a struggle, and the dryer attachment dried my hair to 80% dry in about 5 minutes. To have voluminous curls takes me about 10 minutes from start to finish, because it curls my hair as it dries it. It takes 10-15 seconds per curl, and if I section my hair into 10 parts, thats a total of 5 minutes. Getting that time back was worth every penny spent on the Airwrap. My hair looks soft, bouncy, and healthy, which is more than any of the tools I had combined could do.
There are a lot of mixed reviews about this product online, so I did my research. I got the set that I thought I would use the most that would be the best for my hair type. I have the Volume + Shape styler, which is recommended for fine flat hair. It comes with 1.2 inch air wrap barrels, a smoothing brush, a round volumizing brush, a pre styling dryer, the base (which the attachments clip onto), and a storage case. I love all of the attachments, as they all do different things. I also watched so many tutorials and videos on how to use it, and tips and tricks from people that loved it. Dyson’s website also has some great little clips on how to use each attachment There is a bit of a learning curve, but after little practice it’s so easy to use! After having it for a few weeks, I honestly don’t know how I went this long without it, and highly recommend to anyone who wants to cut down on their hair styling time, but definitely look around for it discounted and save $100!!
