Trend: The Shacket

Shackets (shirt + jacket = shacket) have been around for a bit, but they’re definitely the “it” item for fall. They go with everything and add an effortlessly cool girl vibe to any outfit. I’ve seen them styled with everything from leather leggings to shorts or a skirt, it’s easy to incorporate into your existing wardrobe. They’re such a versatile item, it’s not surprising that so many people, including myself, is jumping on the trend.

Pretty much any store you look at has a version. From Isabel Marant and Anine Bing, Aritzia and & other stories, Zara and H&M, and shein and Target, you can find one at any price point and style to fit what you need. Zara literally even has an entire “Shacket” section on their website.  There are so many versions from wool to flannel to corduroy, plain colored to plaid or printed. The oversized fit adds the element of coziness that everyone could use right now, and who doesn’t want to feel like they’re wearing a blanket while still looking chic?

I first fell in love with the Isabel Marant Gabriel jacket (which at around $500 was WAYY over my shacket budget), and the Aritzia Ganna Jacket (still more that I would like to spend), and went on the hunt for the perfect one for me. I knew wanted something neutral in color, and then thought about the weight of the fabric. Since it’s a combination between a shirt and a jacket, the weight can range anywhere from a thicker flannel more over shirt style to a heavy weight wool that’s more like a coat. Because of the current pandemic situation I don’t leave my house that often, so I knew I would get the most out of more of an overshirt style. I ended up getting the Zara corduroy over shirt since I can wear it as a shirt, or layer it to make it more like a jacket, and the best part was it was only $40 and has pockets. I still can’t get the Aritzia jacket out of my mind, so it may end up being a holiday gift to myself 🙂

There are just so many options at so many price points, I recommend doing a bit of digging and research before pulling the trigger. But on the flip side the one from Target sold out in days so if it’s a great price go for it!! If you are looking for something that is more like a coat, just keep in mind that because of the heavier weight of the materials they will be more expensive!
