As sad that it is the summers almost over, I absolutely LOVE fall. I love the leaves changing, the crisp air, and most importantly fall clothes. I love the cozy feel that fall brings, and being able to throw on a sweater and a jacket and look effortlessly chic.
Below are my list of fall must have essential items. These are all pieces that I don’t see going out of style, especially in neutral colors. When you keep a neutral color palate, you can mix and match and easily layer pieces. Neutral doesn’t mean you can’t play with prints!! I love a good plaid or neutral leopard prints, as long as everything is kept in the same color family it’s all fair game to me. There is no specific of each item that is a must have, it’s what makes you feel the best in, and what fits you the best in both size and style.

My Fall Must Have Items:
-Leather or suede jacket
- Out of everything on this list, this is the one piece I wear more than anything else. It’s so easy to throw on over any look and make it more complete, or throw it on over a dress to add some edge. My absolute favorites are from Blank NYC, you can almost always find them on sale for a reasonable price, and their vegan leather is amazing.
-The “perfect” sweater
- I own way too many sweaters than what should be allowed. But there are always a few that I will always go to when I don’t know what to wear, or when I want to feel my best. My current go to is a beige V-neck sweater that’s oversized and so soft, and the color goes with almost everything.
-A blazer
- Blazers are always a classic look, I pair with a plain white tee for work, or with a graphic tee and ripped jeans to elevate the outfit. To keep from looking too boxy I go for a longer length blazer with more fitted waist. In the cooler months, add a long line coat as another layer to the look.
-Skinny/Straight leg jeans
- With fall layering, I find that skinny jeans or straight leg jeans tend to be the most flattering because it helps from being overwhelmed with too much fabric. Proportions are key, and since I tend to gravitate towards oversized sweaters I find balance in more fitted jeans. If you prefer tighter or more fitted sweaters, maybe straight to looser fitting may balance out better.
-Booties
- My idea of a perfect bootie has three requirements: they have to be comfortable and easy to walk in, hit above the ankle, and have a good chunky heel. I always try on boots with my favorite jeans, even if I love the boots sometimes the proportions don’t work and then it’s not worth it for me!
-Flats/mules
- Shoes that require zero effort to put on, feel like you’re wearing slippers, but still look like you’re put together? It’s almost like they’re the perfect shoe. I prefer a more pointed version to elongate my legs, and some little extra detail like a buckle or a print to keep them fun.
