Lately I’ve been all about organizing. There’s something so satisfying about being able to see everything you own neatly tucked away in it’s place. The best part about organizing is having to go through everything you own, and getting rid of items that you should have tossed a while ago. Especially for make-up and skin care, it does expire and can hold bacteria, so always check the back of your products to see what their shelf life is! (like the pictures below)

My make up area was a disaster. I have a monthly subscription for skin care and make up, and in addition to the samples you get in stores I had a TON of tiny sample size items. I love sample/trial size anything since it’s perfect for traveling, and a great way to try something new without having to purchase the whole product. Also the mini sizes are just adorable! I used to keep everything in a bin, but it was hard to see what I had unless I dug through everything. I went to my local Home Goods and found some clear plastic drawers that were exactly what I was looking for. Acrylic can get expensive, so it was great to find such an affordable alternative. It has enough drawers to be able to sort all my samples by category, and I find myself trying more and more samples since they’re so easily accessible.
Sample size items were the easy part, it was the rest of my make up that needed some help. I like to sort by make up by how I would use it on my face, all the primers together, all foundations together, skin tints together, eye products, bronzers, blushes, etc. It helps me find what I’m looking for super quickly in the morning, especially since I’m usually half asleep. I found modular clear organizers that had both drawers and sections to hold lip sticks and brushes, so it would be the only organizer I needed.
Clear make up drawers and organizers are easy to find (try the Container Store, Target, Homegoods, Amazon) and in my opinion to perfect thing for make up. When you are able to see everything you own, you’re more likely to use everything, and more importantly not buy as much since you see can see everything.
The trick is find one that fits your needs, and your price point. I would always find one that was the exact size and shape I was looking for, but it would cost over $100. I just had to do a little digging to find what I wanted!

*Not as pretty as the ones you find online, but it’s my actual make up shelf
